Why We Need More Muslim Creators in Media

For too long, Muslims have been misrepresented or underrepresented in media. The stories we see often don’t reflect the authentic lives and experiences of our communities. That’s why it’s more important than ever for Muslims to be involved in creating content, shaping narratives, and taking on leadership roles in media.

As Hirra Farooqi, co-founder of the Muslim International Film Festival, explained, “We need Muslims in those executive positions to tell the stories we want to be told and heard from.” Having more Muslim voices behind the scenes means we can control how our communities are portrayed and ensure that our diverse experiences are given the spotlight they deserve.

Organizations like Muslim Media Hub and the Muslim International Film Festival are working to support and empower Muslim creatives, providing opportunities and platforms to share their work. These spaces are crucial for nurturing talent and helping filmmakers, writers, and other creators bring their authentic stories to light.

If you’re a Muslim creative, it’s time to make your mark. The tools, resources, and communities are here to help you succeed. Together, we can reshape the narrative.
