When Maryam Dadabhoy co-founded the Sisterhood Softball League nine years ago, there were no organized sports leagues for Muslim women in her community. Starting out wasn’t easy. Faced with skepticism and a low sign-up rate in the first year, Maryam and her team encountered plenty of doubts. Yet, they believed in their vision and kept going.
Today, the league has flourished beyond anyone’s expectations, creating a supportive space where Muslim women can come together, compete, and enjoy sports. The league’s success has even inspired other leagues to form, proving there is a strong demand for spaces like these. What started as a small idea grew into a thriving community, built on resilience and the power of persistence.
Maryam’s advice to young Muslims who want to make a difference? “Don’t be afraid to take a chance. Find people who believe in your vision, come together, and just try.” Her story is a powerful reminder that with determination and faith, even the smallest efforts can grow into something impactful.
